Released on = August 9, 2007, 7:00 pm

Press Release Author = Partha Sarathy

Industry = Education

Press Release Summary = The latest jingle doing the circuit is \" London Times is
Falling Down, Falling Down, Falling Down, London Times is Falling Down, Its Unfair
Rankings\".

Press Release Body = According to the \'THES\' Times Higher Education supplement, an
authoritative journal in academia, the IITs of India ranked 57th in the world\'s top
200 universities list and the IIMs of India stood 68th. The Jawaharlal Nehru
University JNU is 183rd in the list. For those who do not know, JNU is located at
Delhi.

London Times has given 57th rank to Indian Institutes of Technology, India. Every
one knows that there are over half a dozen IITs in India such as IIT Delhi, IIT
Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, IIT Bombay. Every one
except the intellectuals of the Think Tank at London Times know that all IITs are
not equal. However, for no apparent reason, London Times feel that all IITs are at
par in its rankings. What is the basis for clubbing all IITs as one?

Further, the 68th position has been ear marked by London Times for Indian Institutes
of Management. Every one knows that there are several IIMs in India such as IIM
Ahmedabad, IIM Lucknow, IIM Calcutta, IIM Kozikode, IIM Bangalore etc.

Every one except the intellectulas of the Think Tank at London Times know that all
IIMs are not equal. For that matter IIMs are NOT at all universities. They do not
offer degrees. They offer only Post Graduate Diplomas. They just run Management
programmes only. At least the IITs offer degrees in various Engineering, Science
etc. London Times feel that all are at par in its rankings. What is the basis for
clubbing all IIMs as one?

In the Financial Times Global MBA rankings for 2007, the much fancied IIMs do not
figure any where in the top 100.

Its for sure that London Times had not heard of Institutions like Birla Institute of
Technology & Science \"BITS\" Pilani Rajasthan, Indian Institute of Science \"IISc\"
Bangalore, Indian School of Business \"ISB\" Hyderabad, etc.

Lonon Times has for sure fallen down in this rankings episode.
